VICTORIA INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL

  • June 18, 2018

The Victoria Jazz Society is a small but lively group that host incredible jazz acts throughout the year – but the marquis event of the year is most certainly the Victoria International Jazz Festival. Backed by TD bank, the festival brings some of the biggest, brightest, most swinging-est jazz musicans to BC’s capital! Here are just a few of the names you’ll see at this year’s festival, taking place from June 22 to July 1.

CORY WEEDS FEATURING STAFFORD & MABERN

Corey Weeds is a bravura saxophonist, a lyrical and soulful performer who plays sweet, emotional jazz that you can tap your feet too. He’ll be joined on stage by two other legends of the craft, pianist Howard Mabern and trumpeter Terrell Stafford. These are three titans compelling each other into greater heights every night on stage. Not to be missed.

DEE DEE BRIDGEWATER & THE MEMPHIS SOULPHONY

Dee Dee Bridgewater’s power and grace as a singer defy description. Her incredible voice is equal parts Ella Fitzgerald and Motown, conjuring  the fun of Doo Wop at the same time as she expresses masterful control of her range. Together with her band the Memphis Soulphony, she puts on a stage show that you are unlikely to forget.

ST. PAUL AND THE BROKEN BONES

The shining stars of the neo-soul movement, St. Paul and the Broken Bones play electrifying soul music with modern sensibilities. Lead singer Paul Janeway impossibly channels greats like James Brown, Otis Redding, Bobby Blank and more with an unmistakably adorkable charm. Strong stuff.

AN EVENING WITH MACY GRAY

Try to walk away – you’ll stumble. Try to hide it – it’s clear! Macy Gray remains a one of a kind singer and interpreter of classic soul.
You can find a full schedule of events for the TD Victoria International Jazz Festival here.

Don’t miss a second of these incredible shows – stay in the heart of the action by booking a room at the Days Inn Victoria on the Harbour. Fantastic comfort, great value, and an unbeatable location.
