Victoria transforms this Christmas!

Over the course of December, Victoria transforms into a Christmas Wonderland! A lot of people associate the holidays with a “white Christmas” with snow on the ground, and it’s true that Victoria doesn’t get a lot of snow. That just means that we have to use our imagination to make the city into something truly holly and jolly! And believe us, when you look around at all the smiling faces in our beloved city at this magical time of year (while wearing a LIGHT coat!), you won’t miss the snow at all. We don’t!

ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF TREES

One great example of how well Victoria does Christmas is the annual festival of trees at the Bay Centre! Taking place at Victoria’s premier mall shopping experience, hundreds of hand-decorated trees deck the halls, making for a pine-y, Christmas-y shopping experience! Every tree is sponsored by a local business, and proceeds go towards supporting sick kids at BC hospitals. Take a stroll through an enchanted forest, vote on your favourite tree, AND get your shopping done early!

The Festival of Trees is taking place from now until January 7.

GINGERBREAD SHOWCASE

A fundraiser for Habitat Victoria, the Gingerbread Showcase is no ordinary gingerbread house competition! Featuring houses constructed by Victoria’s best bakers and most enthusiastic amateurs, these candied houses aren’t just four walls, a roof, and a smattering of candy and icing – these gingerbread houses are architectural. If you love seeing what committed artists are able to do with pedestrian concepts, or love miniature work in general, this is an event you and your kids will love.

This year’s theme is “home is where the heart is,” highlighting the important work that Habitat does for Victoria and the world in providing homes for those who can’t afford them! Takes place from now until January 6 at The Parkside Spa.

Of course, you don’t have to go to a specific event in December to enjoy Victoria – just go for a stroll along the waterfront and enjoy the lights and decorations! And the best way to do that is by booking a room at the Days Inn Victoria on The Harbour

Even in the winter, Victoria never gets that cold – still, there can be a pleasant crisp to the sea air as it blows through the harbour and into the city! And when that happens there’s nothing like the fire of a stiff drink to feel warm and cozy.

For a big city, Victoria feels like a small town, tucked into the Vancouver Island against the waters of the Georgia Strait. Cozy and quaint, it’s the perfect place to enjoy Christmas.
