Great bike rides on Vancouver Island!

  • June 18, 2018

It may feel like summer just started, but blink and it will pass you by! Make the most of it with a trip to Victoria to experience the gorgeous weather, the historic city, and the all around good vibes of our fair berg. Even better, why not rent a bike downtown and then go on a ride around the coast of the island? Here are some of our favourite trails.

THE GALLOPING GOOSE

We could hardly get away listing the best bike routes in Victoria without listing the Galloping Goose. Over 60 km of paved trail that makes it a perfect fit for biking families, you can go all the way from Victoria to the Sooke potholes on this ride! Rows of trees along the trail make for dappled, easy light, meaning you won’t get overheated. It’s just a fantastic trail all around. Highly recommended.

SEASIDE TOURING ROUTE

A 39 km round trip that encircles Victoria, going through James Bay, Oak Bay and Cadboro Bay, the Seaside Touring Route is a great way to see all that Victoria has to offer. For most of this ride you do share the road with motorists, but Victoria is extremely bike friendly. In fact, I’d argue that biking is the best way to experience the pace of the city!

TOUR DE VICTORIA

Inspired by the Tour de France, the Tour de Victoria was created by competitive rider Ryan Hesjedal who once placed sixth in that world famous contest! This race has three categories depending on your level of experience: a 45 km ride for the entry level cyclist, a 90 km ride for the enthusiast, and a 140 km ride for the true bicycling pro (or masochist!). Taking place on August 20, this race raises money for the Ryder’s Cycling Society of Canada.

There’s no better place to start your island rides that the Days Inn Victoria on the Harbour. Let us know when you’re coming and we’ll share our favourite routes!

All kinds of sea life live in and pass through the Georgia Strait between Victoria BC and the mainland. It’s a paradise of teeming life all year round, but from May to October it’s also a great opportunity to see whales!

Victoria is absolutely gorgeous in the summer. The island biosphere means it never gets stiflingly hot, so you’re able to enjoy cool ocean breezes while still enjoying the sun, and there’s just so much to do downtown. Check out these fun events!
